Environmental & Social Safeguards

AWSE knows the environmental & social frameworks that govern donor-financed projects inside out — World Bank ESF/ESS, AfDB Integrated Safeguards System (ISS/OS) and IFC Performance Standards — and helps consortia navigate them on the ground in Sierra Leone.

Donor frameworks we command

World Bank Environmental and Social Framework (ESF) and Environmental and Social Standards (ESS). AfDB Integrated Safeguards System (ISS) and Operational Safeguards (OS). IFC Performance Standards — already applied on the Guma Valley mission.

Instruments delivered

Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA / ESHIA), Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMP), Resettlement Action Plans (RAP), Gender Development and Poverty Alleviation studies, stakeholder engagement plans, grievance mechanisms and disclosure.

Terrestrial and aquatic biodiversity baselines

ESIA campaigns for water and infrastructure projects include targeted biodiversity surveys. AWSE documents amphibian and other faunal communities to inform mitigation hierarchies, protected-area buffers and no-go zones.
